An advanced directive or advanced healthcare directive; legal documents that deal with medical decisions. In the state of Florida, we have what’s called designation of healthcare surrogate and that’s when you choose someone who can make medical decisions for you when you’re not able to. Florida also has what’s called a living will and that is an individual’s opportunity to put in writing what they want done at the end of their life, what type or treatment or what type of treatment they want or don’t want at the end of their days. Those are two important documents to have because it’s your opportunity to tell others “this is how I want my medical decisions and my life to go”.
